At Gem of Ice, we focus on snow and silver bengal without neglecting structure. That is why you will also find brown bengal with us. Structure and physique are more important than colour. You can recognise a Bengal by its outline, not by its colour.
Our home is our cattery. Our cats are first and foremost pets and family members. Kittens are born in the study and grow up in the living room, with much of the garden as their domain.
Visits are welcome by appointment so you can see everything for yourself.
Bengals are descended from the ALC (Asian Leopard Cat). In Belgium, we are only allowed to keep them from the fifth generation onwards, which means at least five generations removed from the ALC.
Socialisation of the kittens is as important as the character of the parents. Therefore, we socialise the kittens in a domestic environment. This way, they can safely and in a controlled way get acquainted with everyday situations, people and dogs. Our kittens stay with us for at least 13 weeks, which reduces behavioural problems and stress in the future.
As with any breed, Bengal cats have hereditary diseases that require attention, as well as bacterial and viral diseases that are common in cats. All our cats are extensively tested before entering our breeding programme, and some tests we repeat annually. We test for HCM, PKD/CIN, PRA-b, PK-Def, FIV and FeLV.
