This past weekend, the highly anticipated On Safari Europe 2024 brought 48 of Europe’s best Bengal cats to Vienna (Parndorf) for an extraordinary showcase of feline beauty and talent. As a small and relatively new breeder, I attended with no expectations other than to participate, fit in, and enjoy the experience. Little did I know it would turn into an unforgettable event for me and my cat.
I brought along Gem of Ice Ceylon Sapphire (Celi), a stunning 7-month-old silver Bengal kitten, to her very first show. The competition was fierce, especially in the kitten class, which featured 21 of the finest Bengal kittens. Against all odds, Celi managed to secure a place in the finals, taking 10th place on Friday. But the biggest surprise came later that evening when she was awarded the Breeder’s Choice Best Bengal Kitten Tail—a huge honor and completely unexpected.
Beyond the awards, I was deeply impressed by Celi’s progress over the three days. On the first day, she was absolutely terrified, hiding away from all the hustle and bustle. By the second day, she started to relax, and by Sunday, just before we left for home, she achieved something even more significant: she purred on the judge’s table. For me, this was her most meaningful accomplishment of the weekend, as it showed her confidence and trust blossoming in an entirely new environment.

This weekend was more than just an achievement. It was an incredible milestone for both Celi and myself, proving that every small breeder’s journey is worth celebrating.
